Hope you are all keeping safe and well in these weird and difficult times. Losing such a resource is trying and difficult, especially missing the social interactions that, as gamers, we look for in our games.
I have had great success in running (and playing) online using Table Top Simulator (it's a bit of a mouthful so I'll refer to it as TTS for ease of typing). Combining the old and new is proving to be an interesting combination. In the midst of an ongoing D&D 3.5 campaign called 'The Shattered Gates of Slaughtergarde' (SGoS), I have injected a touch of the old. Thats right, an old AD&D quest called ' The Lost Island of Castanamir' (TLIoC). So far, the players are finding the idiosyncrasies of this little side quest interesting, as well as annoying! But with the chance of gaining some incredible loot (as well as possibly the secrets of how to construct cleaning golems) it has also been ideal way to introduce a faction found in SGoS that don't have a true introduction.
BUT, this has come at a cost! Not to the players but to me. Yes, most of the creatures found in TLIoC can be found in the various source books for 3.5 but some have become "extinct" in the D&D universe. So, a question. What creature would you like to see return from the midst in time to return to 3.5 or 5th edition? (leave your answers in the comments below).
Now, the opportunity part of the title.
My Thursday D&D game is full so I'm starting a new game on a Tuesday night. I'll be starting off by running a one shot 'cinematic' game of Alien RPG followed by (hopefully) a AD&D campaign updated to 3.5. Here are the requirements to join...
- Must be able to use Discord (it's free) for chat
- Be available on Tuesday evenings/nights
- Be willing to buy a copy of TTS (available on Steam. I think it's roughly £14.99 but not sure off the top of my head)
- Be ready to have fun and interact with the other PC's and NPC's
- Start Date TBA
- Times TBA
Now, from experience, we still have our little conversations that are a tangent from the game (like club) and generally a good time is had by all!
If you are in two minds about TTS, please comment below and I'm sure that someone will comment describing the value for money they have found using TTS!
SO, on a footnote, keep safe, keep well, and hope to hear your voices in the future
